Alla fantasizes on a good camera to capture the Alaska views coming our way in less than 3.5 weeks. I am generally pleased with my simple camera, after all , it did what other camera failed to achieve. Survive a year in my possession. For a camera, this is quite a feat.
My mom and Moti came for a visit. This would be the first time they would meet Alla’s parents. We were both slightly nervous, but it went well. we were supposed to meet at alla’s sister Inna, but the rain (yes lots of rain!!! In July) , so we relocated to Alla’s parents newly renovated apartment, which looks nice colored in a color I cannot define (perhaps peach?). no need to bore with the details, but the evening went smooth, I drank 2 sips of champagne, Alla’s mom made a ton of food (3 types of fish, schnitzel, mash potatoes, rice, egg plant , fish eggs, stuffed peppers and more and more), then deserts and more food…), with initial introductions over and hours of poker talk complete, we were ready for a camping weekend.
We packed the car like it was a minivan, the trunk was shocked from the amount of stuff crammed into it. I made sure to charge the batteries on the camera and remove the non rechargeable batteries from the charger. We went for breakfast at a local original pancake house (a very good place) for my meat lovers omelet, Alla’s corned beef and hash and our banana foster’s French toast. mmmmmm…
We stopped by Wal-mart for emergency bathing suit shopping, and drove away. On the way we needed some emergency pillows and sleeping bags and stopped at,,, another Wal-mart.
Though we left at 8, it was afternoon by the time we got close. We stopped at the falling water house famous for it’s falls. http://www.wright-house.com/frank-lloyd-wright/fallingwater.html
This house was built to be one with nature, and its kind of is. So we walked the grounds, and stopped by a side stream. I moved a side to take a photo with my fully charged simple camera and a second later I slipped on the greenery by the riverside, and landed on the side, unfortunately the camera went in flying a few meters away and landed in the water. Moti tried to get the camera, took one step ahead, hit the same slippery ground and came crashing down. He crashed worse than I, but no damage other than a nasty bruise on the side of the leg. It was hard to get back up, due to the slippery ground. I had to take my shoes off to get my camera out of the water. The camera actually turns on, but shows nothing. I will wait a few more days before I announce it dead.
I would send you photos from that lovely house, but the photos are wet.
We finished the tour and drove to Ohiopyle with another stop at a local wood shop with the most amazing things made of wood (or plastic), and now we have a bear and bear cub fridge magnet, a 4 piece so cute squirrel and a 2 bears paper towel rack (I would send photos, but) and a bears lamp for my mom as a gift. With the car yet full of more stuff (between us, on the floor, behind the back seats, from the ceiling), and wallets somewhat emptier we finally got to Ohiopyle (lucky there is no Wal-mart in that area.). Mom and Moti were to stay at some lodge, and we made fun with them on every shack we saw on the way, but their lodge was a very nice little 2 bed room place, with lots of images of fish and hunting related themes. We snuched before finally making it to our camp site long after everyone, pitching our tent with the dying light and enjoy gourmet campout food. Real steaks, Smores, and lots of stuff. This camping is an annual event of Alla’s family , their friends, kids, dogs, etc.. and they bring so much food. Boris (Gennady’s brother, Gennady is alla’s brother in law. Gennady is in California at this time) spent hours cooking steaks, soup which they all liked (not for me, has eggplant), rice and lamb stew. The bonding of both families continued by the fire and later we went to sleep in the tent and my mom went to sleep at the lodge.
The trip would continue the next day with breakfast and rafting , but for now good night from some Microtel in route 19, new York.
