Surprise surprise, stuck at an airport.
Detroit this time, on my way back to Kansas city. We got on the plane, waited for an hour, then they started suggesting that they have issues, back on the ground, over an hour. The technician will have an answer in an hour or so, so we wait.
I asked the counter person if I could change my flight to st Louis or Des Moines. They say yes, with a charge! What a huzpa. I would be rerouted if they canceled the flight. Got to love airlines.
Yesterday I landed in cleveland (busy flying schedule recently) and a sign at the airport caught my attention.
Lung transplant at the cleveland Clinique every 3 days. I don’t know why it takes so long for them to do that? I think it should be quicker, this operation should be ‘Plung and play’, just connect a vain and an artery and you are done. Well enough on operations.
I was back in Alone , new York Wednesday, ended the day back in Erie, and left to cleveland early Thursday morning to catch a flight to DC for a test at the Israel embassy. The flight was delayed for just a few minutes, which were enough to miss the train from Baltimore to DC. With an hour and something for the test, and the next train an hour later, I had a cab for a 100$ or supper shuttle (cheap, only 37$). I asked the super clerk , if I would be on time “aha” was all she said.
“this plane is just not fixable” was the message I just heard, so now they are looking for another plane. I have to tell you, writing here is just not comfortable. They have outlets on the floors where is usually write, but jammed in next to sits, so you cannot sit and relax. I am in a courtesy phone booth, which is too low for the lap top- annoying. And now I have to move to gate B4, no plane yet. Why can’t they move the unfixable plane and bring another here?.
3 minutes go by..
On the floor again next to B4.
“Aha” is a band I like from the 80s(“take on me”, “sun always shine on tv”), and not the answer you want to hear from a super clerk. So I got in to the shuttle and we were on our slow traffic way to the city which is not a part of any state. Was I there on time? Take a wild guess.
DC has a road called embassy row- lots of embassies one next to the others. Israel is not there, there is another smaller area of embassies, so I pass Bahrain, Ghana, Kuwait and some others. You can recognize an embassy by a plaque and the flag. I was looking for mine, and then I recognized it by something found only next to Israel embassies. The security agent, with the sun glasses and ear pieces, I saw that before the plaque and the flag.
10 minutes later after clearing security (and noticing that I left my phone in the supper shuttle somewhere next to Bahrain.) I entered Jerusalem hall, and the open university clerk, told me I am late, and if I had a good excuse, I didn’t, just the truth. She told me I was expected at 9, and my invitation says 9.30. we argued on that, and I noticed it is very stupid of me to argue with someone who should do me a favor and go out of their way to allow me to enter. She left and came back with the approval. And the test began. I am doing ok in these types of test where you have some event and question to analyze it, I find these easy-and usually get around 80 in them, but I hate to write so many pages (hurts my hands). The test ended , I think ok in what I figure to be the most useless course I am taking. I wish I knew this before I signed up. the only other Examy in the room finished the same time I did and we walked out together. I walked with Anat towards the metro. When her husband surprises her and came to pick her up. Itay came here to study at Georgetown and Anat joined and works from home. They offered to go for lunch and we went to their favorite café.
We set on the back area of the café in the sun under one of those big umbrellas. This place is Green as Georgetown is a very Green city, this place had no cokes , so I had water and a simple chicken sandwich presented in a very nice way. After that Itay got back to work, and Anat and I went to tour the city. There wasn’t enough for one off the museums so we went to the national cathedral. It’s the 2nd largest in the US and 6th in the world. It was built in the 20th century , but it is a gothic church looks very impressive and like it was done hundreds of years ago. We took the tour and heard lots of facts and nice trivia info on this place. Did you know that there is a president buried there, and Helen Keller as well (her ashes any way).
Update- the plane still has maintenance issues- I don’t know why we had to move a gate, and they are saying that there is no due flight time yet (the flight to st Louis took off, and the one to Des Moines).
The tour operator said that Helen keller and about 2 hundred others are buried in a Columbarium
Captain just came in, there may be another plane and he “believes” it will magically transport us to Kansas city-
And now the official word, ‘exciting’ Kansas city is getting closer
We got a 7$ voucher for lunch which barely gets nothing at an airport
The 2nd plane had maintenance issues as well, but the 3rd one was good- I am now on it and it is in the air
I always knew that columbarium was a place where they grew pigeons in medical times, I told the tour guide about it, and looked it up and it is a place for Urn burial. I need to look up the pigeon thing.
So the national cathedral is an impressive building. I would say I would worth a visit, even if it was in Paris or any other city in Europe, check it out.
Anat drove me to union station, which is an impressive building by itself, I got my ticket, and tried to catch a nap on the train till the evil conductor woke me up.
I went to the supper shuttle counter (I used Anat and itay’s phone to verify that my phone was found and it was waiting for me). And had time to refuse an offer not to fly out and get a 250$ back (place was over booked). If I knew about today, I would probably have taken it.
The south west flight attendant was in a good mood , he was singing and telling jokes on the PA, one of the reasons why I prefer this airline (the delaying today is northwest- which was bought by delta). I think I should avoid the combinations of Delta, Detroit and Kansas city- not good things for me to be at.(maybe I should add Atlanta and newark to this list)
Ok- that is all for today, I guess I will take a nap- still 2 hours to drive today to Albany (not new York), and maybe see the new harry potter movie today….
The test is why I have been quiet recently- now it’s done, still a lot to catch up on, but later
Cheers from somewhere over Indiana.
