Record high temperatures in Toronto, can you believe it.
We were warned that bears can’t hibernate there because it is too cold, but we walked around in 1 layer shirts, enjoying the sun and a lovely city.
We started the tour the night before at ali baba’s a great Shawarma place- that we found at random. Just to explain- for me , here, any shawarma place is automatically a great place. But it was good indeed. Mr baba was Jordanian and had photos which I recognized as wadi ram (having been there 2 years ago with president sarcusey- see my face book for details). Much to the delight of Mr baba.
Also mmmmm good feta burekas, but the pastels- eehhhhh – never mind.
But in the morning we started in Casa Loma- which is an original ancient medieval castle from the 1930s – I had my obvious doubts about it, how can a 1930’s castle look authentic. But the second I laid my eyes and my camera zoom on the place- I authenticates it’s medievalness.
This castle building dude was one of the richest man in Canada, but had lots of secret operations within this castle during world war 2- as a weapons building headquarters and source for espionage- and now like all other castles- it is now a tourist attraction.
the inside of the castle does not look anything like medieval times- no straw, or pigs in the streets. But like a fancy shmency mention, and I finished half a roll of film on this place (lucky it was a digital cam)- I guess I liked it due to the amount of details that was put in any object that was there. From the things on the walls- I don’t even know what is the name of the statue that is hanging on the corner of the ceiling and beams in the building- in Hebrew or English. But on each such beamceil corner is unique in appearance and they were all grotesque (probably from the baroque period).
There seemed to be a piano, fire place and chandelier in every room, all unique- so I got lots of photos of those as well and some nice paintings and assorted weapons throughout this huge place – there is also a tower- - the house is 3 huge floors- and the towers is 4 floors above it- so got some view photos.
There are hidden stair cases and high end attractions for the time.
Mr castle owner has in his bath tub- a shower that sprays water in every direction- from6 different taps (quite a spoiled dude)- given the time of built- that wasn’t really available than – actually I have never seen such a thing these days (or maybe in some movie)- it cost him 10000$in the 1930just to build this device- a fortune back than- but, wait, Canadian dollar…. I guess not so much.
So again- every room was impressive with much attention to details- but after 2 hours you want to break free
So we left the castle towards the Bata shoe museum
What? Shoe museum! More details on that in days to come
Good night everyone and have a happy Purim
