Lots of things happened recently
From record breaking to criticism, fund raising and border crossings
This would be the 1st entry written while listening to another audio book on tape- review on that will come later- it has just begun 30 seconds ago.
Since books on tape (CD) I only read (hear) in the car- it’s hard to blog while driving-so lucky I am not . we are on our way to Toronto, where we will enjoy the more frozen air and the Queen musical.
So after finishing the shopaholic book, we went to see the shopaholic movie. As you may recall, I was fearing the movie was Americanized, it was. But it turned out to be a funny and charming movie. Becks (not Beckham) character was well done, though I had imagined a cuter and less with over flowing features (for the female readers- yes, this is a chick flick- but tell him the main character is often partially exposed)- ok , enough couples therapy. We laughed through the entire movie, it is not too kitschy- the only fault was them moving the scene to new York , with all the characters and adding stuff form other books in the series- so doing those movies later will be somehow problematic ( example- in the 3rd book (my audio book) her friend gets married, but in the movie (book 1) that friend got married- so you can’t have her have a huge marriage again- they will have to bastardise the book to fit- I don’t see a need to do that- but it is often done in movies. I guess we enjoyed it a lot since we were already in love with becks- but I think I would have enjoyed it either way- so go and watch it now! 8 credit cards on the official ‘Alicia bitch long legs’ movie rating.
So far the new audio book is very cute.
Hurricane Katharina visited my apartment lately – and the damage is well noticed- receipts everywhere, clothes on the floor, stuff just floating around. So we called the national sorting guard and now most of my paper work is neatly placed in folders, sub folders, labels, sub labels, organized by subject, date, color and paper size. Though the apartment still looks like a hurricane hit, since the work is still unfinished, but almost 2 drawers organized- it is probably not my apartment. This colossal achievement could not have been accomplished by myself alone. credit goes to labeler (also known as racer, pharmacist or alla).
So the next batch of home photos will have more miscellaneous furniture (mirrors, lamps, boxes, tables, TV, TV stand and more to shop.
My fund raising goes slow- I haven’t sent out many requests this last week- since Alla was here on her frozen spring break- so I tried to work less and I think I managed it. So far 1000$ raised- the site says 510$- I have money received that I have not updated and some money people said would contribute and have not yet done so. and this weekend I will renew my efforts- I have already approached my city of shaker and my building office management for support- but I have a lot more interesting sources to approach, wait for upcoming blogs for those.
But the workout portion is going great- my official training begins this Sunday- but I have already improved my long distance running from 5k 2 weeks ago to 8.6k yesterday, which is now my new longest distance running personal bestJ- the bad thing is that it is less than half way in the race, but so far on track. And also doing more active stuff like racquetball , 10 miles hike, 8 miles elliptic, 3 spinning sessions, bozo classes, boot camp
Oh yea boot camp- was not what I expected. I can call it bozo and friends.
Bozo is a half strong flexible plastic ball to step on for aerobics, which was a major part of the class – and the guide starts with – “we will try”, and “this workout is for you, to do at your pace”, what kind of confounded cr p is that? No one in boot camp asks you if you want to run, they just tell you and if you don’t, they force you to do pushups, and then you still have to run. This is at best Gucci boot on summer camp.
Spinning is different between Israel and here at the JCC. In Israel the rooms are dark, with a disco ball or some light affects, loud energetic music , and guides that push you onward. Here- the room is partially darken but you can still see clearly, and some guides “ask” you to push, and tell you stories (I admit, interesting stories – this one was on the flight on the albatross, the 1st man motored aircraft over the English channel), but in such a slow boring way, I felt like crashing directly to the water. In other lessons the music is decent- and whenever I know a song , I sing it out loud, to the pleasure (or not) of the riders around me. I find that singing during work out helps me breath better and run longer- so I need to compile a best of cd to have for the race.
I also went to zumba class. Zumba is a combination of aerobics and Latin dancing. This is the class for all genders except males. Not that we are not aloud, but, some hip movements, hand movements, the type of stretching is very female oriented. So I was the only guy there, the lesson was not hard, but just weird, and this type of movements helped my crying muscles. At the end, the instructor thanked me for coming, so I became an instant class celeb. After that was a Pilates class with the same teacher. A good lesson for abs, this time I wasn’t thanked, though I was still the only guy. My 15 seconds of zumba fame have ended.
So back to the cinema scene- Fired Up, was another movie we had seen. This is an American pie type movie (the 1st one, which was good)- very funny but stupid as expected. The main actor, though anonymous by name, has clearly changed his name, since without a doubt it is the son of Jim Carrey. With similar facial expression but less talented, though his character did not need to resort to facial expressions. Still funny.
The important piece from this movie is a Is the subject line of this entry- to understand you have to see the movie.
After the great shopaholic book came a book more boring than death. The archeologist didn’t even find the mummy(that didn’t chase them).
The only memorable sentences are
“a woman with a wallet is like a camel with no rider” whatever that means (this was 1920 Egypt).
Oh break- we are now crossing Ontario lake to Canada- I can feel the air is 70% lighter here.
Lucky we were not searched, since racer smuggled illegal booze across the border, I wonder if she smuggled some Nutela as well?
So back to Egypt – oh why bother- people were shot, killed, statuette was stolen, seduction. I guess the narration killed it for me- so the best thing that could have happened for this book was that it ended. A rating of 10 in the ‘not another boring space launch’ award.
Still more to say , but we are in down town Toronto- a perfect location and great air outside- its Toronto in march and we were wearing Tshirts!!!
So see you on the other side of the border
